The Charter Standard Scheme is best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League. I was approached to become Chairman of the football club back in 2004, when my predecessor, Andrew McPhee decided his ‘sell by date’ had expired. It was a tremendous honour to be asked and I didn’t need long to think about it.

Since then with the help of our committee we have continued to establish a safe and friendly environment for young people to play football and we pride ourselves on doing so.

In 2007-08 season we will have 17 teams participating in league football, with in excess of 200 youngsters taking part.

As an example, the Club is evolving an exit strategy for our current Under 16 players, who may not want to continue playing at a senior level at the end of the season, but do want to continue their involvement in youth football. The Club will look to support those who are committed and have shown an interest in coaching or refereeing. The Club and young players will certainly benefit from their enthusiasm and experience as will they themselves and youth football in general.

Finally, I would just like to say once again that we really need the help of our Club members, so if you are able to spare some time, please don't be shy coming forward. There are a multitude of roles, requiring various levels of commitment and time. It is YOUR Club and we can build on and benefit from the recent successes TOGETHER.

Welcome to the 2007/8 season and let's hope it is just as successful as the last.

There are 17 teams, 15 are registered to play in the Colchester and District Youth League, with the Under 7's and a new  girls team/section also being set up. There are 8 teams playing Mini-Soccer and 9 teams playing 11-a-side. Needless to say, with an increase of 3 teams our resources and facilities are being stretched to the limit and it is something the various sub committees will be focusing on during the course of the season. It's certainly an indication of how successful the Club has been and not something that can or will be taken for granted.

 

Lawford Junior Football Club is ClubSX accredited. The scheme is run by Essex County Council and is designed to assess and verify a sports club quality and safety. Follow this link for more information.
